Sometimes too much planning leads to delays. Here are some simple things you can do for your health, starting TODAY.

Getting healthy and practising self-care to reach your life and work goals can seem out of reach, if all the morning routines on TikTok and Instagram are anything to go by. The reality is that a better body, mind and spirit is accessible to you right now, without you having to go to ridiculous lengths to feel good. The benefits of daily routines that make you feel good extend beyond your personal life and affect your productivity at work too.

Here are a few easy actions you can start today to set new routines that will quickly boost your overall health and productivity:

  1. Move your body – this can start with a five-minute walk, dance class on YouTube, skipping, yoga or anything else you like that requires you to be active. Don’t be intimidated by gyms and fitness bunnies – everything just starts with a bit of movement that increases over time. Start at your current fitness level and commit to making time to move and groove at least three times a week.
  2. Drink water – you can drink it warm or cold, whichever you prefer, just make sure you’re drinking it. Getting a water bottle will keep you accountable as it will go a long way in ensuring you’re never without proper hydration. There are hydration calculators online like this one. It will help you calculate how much water to drink, but like all things, the magic lies in starting the good habit and keeping it up.
  3. Put your phone down, especially in the morning – you aren’t doing yourself any favours diving straight into email or social media on waking up. Checking your online platforms may seem like a small action, but it has consequences that dull your mind and give you dopamine hits too early. Here’s what Jim Kwik, an American brain coach, podcaster, writer and entrepreneur, has to say about it.
  4. Take time to breathe – you may think you’re always breathing, but many of us often forget to breathe deeply. Breathing is a great way to help recalibrate your brain and nervous system. Click here to see our article on breathing.
  5. Ground yourself – exercises like Tai Chi or Qi Gong in which you ground yourself have also been found to help you refocus and re-energise. Click here for the grounding article.
