An internal prosthesis is a device that is placed inside a person’s body during a procedure to permanently replace a body part. In other words, a body part is removed and permanently replaced with a prosthesis during surgery. Examples of these are knee, hip or ankle replacements. No cover is provided under this benefit for intraocular lenses or prostheses that are not replacing a body part such as cardiac stents.
